Skiff Necessities

More often than not people tend to forget how quick a fun day of fishing can turn into an absolute disaster!  Whether its navigating through rough weather and water conditions or having some form of boat malfunction, the water is not an ideal place to be in a bind. Regardless if you're stuck on the water with a mechanical issue or just doing regular boat maintenance its always good to know what gear to keep on stand by!

Must Haves:

Pliers: For obvious reasons pliers are always a must have on any boat whether your getting a hook out of a fish or in some unfortunate cases, out of yourself or someone else. Pliers can also be handy when tightening knots or cutting line.

Wire Cutters: Wire cutters come in handy when needing to cut through some more heavy duty material. Here in  the Louisiana Marsh there is an abundance of underwater debris that can often get caught up in your prop. If you've ever ran through a crab trap or any other form of trap you know how much of a pain it can be getting that thin metal undone around your prop.

Knife: This one needs no explanation.... If you don't have a knife in your boat, get one!

Screwdrivers: In most mechanical issues or just doing regular maintenance work theres always a time when your gonna have to undo some screws.

Small Socket Set:  You don't have to lug around a huge socket set but at least grab a good variety of different sizes to keep with you in case of an issue. You can also find pre-made small sets in most hardware stores.

Adjustable Wrench: It's always good to have around in case of a scenario where you cant fit a ratchet in a tight area or you happen to misplace a certain size socket.

Electrical Tape: Great to have on board in case of any wiring issues or repairs.

Lighter: Regardless on if your lighting up a smoke or heating up a wire/terminal connector it's never a bad idea to keep a lighter with you at all times.

Jump Box: Anyone who is on the water enough knows how frustrating it can be to be stuck out on the water with a dead battery. Keeping a jump box on board is always a huge help.

Wire / Terminal Connectors: A must for any wiring emergency you run into.

First Aid Kit:  For obvious reasons always keep a first aid kit handy.

Dry Box to store everything in: The biggest thing is keeping all your equipment protected and dry so they are good to go whenever theres a mishap.

Don't forget to check your state's legally required items such as a whistle,VHF Radio, life jackets, Flares, Fire extinguisher, etc.
