While most folks are huddled up inside, wrapped in blankets and sipping hot cocoa, the real adventure is happening on the water in southeast Louisiana. January might seem like an off month for fishing, but trust me this is when things get interesting, especially if you’re after redfish. So, if you’re not afraid of a little chill in the air (and maybe a little wind), pack up your gear and get ready for some winter redfish action.
Where To Go?
Red-fishing in January is all about finding warmth. You won’t find them out in the open, but rather tucked into the shallows, around oyster beds, or in marsh areas that hold some heat. The good news? These fish aren’t spread out all over the place. In fact, they tend to be concentrated in certain spots, which makes finding them a bit easier. The key is to fish where the water’s a little warmer. That could be deeper channels, sheltered flats, or even creek mouths where the tide is moving. Redfish don’t like the cold any more than we do, so they’ll move to areas that hold a little heat from the sun.
